Nanyuki Livelihoods and Agricultural Development Program
Upgrading local goats to an improved breed for increased productivity provides PLWAs with access to nutritious goat milk for better healthG.R.A.C.E. has a ten acre farm in Nanyuki district, Mt. Kenya region. The farm is used as a demonstration and training unit for poor and small scale farmers in the region on innovative agricultural practices. Over the last ten years, the farm has significantly improved the livelihood of small scale farmers in the region by providing them with skills, information and agricultural inputs to engage in fish farming, bee keeping, drip irrigation, poultry keeping and dairy goat keeping. In crop farming the farmers have been trained to undertake crop rotation, grow pigeon peas, beetroot, cabbages, kales and improved types of maize and beans. The training offered has been on site and practical, enabling G.R.A.C.E. to grow crops and keep bees, dairy goats and cows and poultry, whose sale has partly sustained the farm operations with the rest supporting families heavily affected by HIV/AIDS in the location.
