Legal and Social Justice Program
Since the year 2010 and with support from the Open Society Institute (OSI), G.R.A.C.E. has implemented a program aimed at promoting access to legal and social justice by vulnerable women, children and People Living With HIV and AIDS (PLWHAS). The program was implemented predominantly in the Kibera informal settlement and in collaboration with seven local partner organisations operating in the settlement. Key activities in the program focused on training local administration officers, community paralegals and Community Based Organisation (CBO) staff on the rights of women, children and PLWAs; establishing reporting centers for cases of rights violations in the community; and supporting the partner organisations to provide social and legal protection to survivors of violations. In the next two years (2012 and 2013), G.R.A.C.E. will expand this work in an effort to further strengthen the capacity of the partner organisations, local administration and other local institutions to receive and act on cases of violations in the community.
